About Us

We are Natural Beekeepers and do not treat our bees with harsh or soft chemicals. We are a no-treatment apiary.

Located in the Appalachian Mountains of northwest North Carolina, we have beehives in 2 different locations within a 6 mile area at about 2700 to 3200 feet. We have no industry in our small community, but we do have organic gardeners and farmers. We also prefer small cell bees over the large cell bees.

It is our intentions to raise resistant stock bees by maintaining their health through natural, no-treatment methods and Integrative Management Producedures (IPM). We feed the bees' honey and pollen back to them if they did not have time to make their own stores before winter or if the dearth was particular long and bad. A dearth can takes place twice a year - June and August. August dearth can last a month. As a last resort we do feed sugar/water with honey.

We harvest through the Spring and Summer, but we also harvest our honey at the end of October, or after the flowers die, ensuring our getting the allergens from the Fall flowers. Ingesting honey harvested within 50 miles of your area in which you reside helps build up your immune system against allergies. We sell selective honey when available, but always try to have on hand our Annual Honey which includes all the extractions taken during the entire year. This is sold towards the end of the year. But please understand, our bees get the honey first if it is a particularly bad year for nectar.

Apiary #1 is located at 3200'. We have a view of Max Patch to the far left of our front porch during the winter time. As you can see in the photo we have doubled our hives this year. We still have the wild swarm in the log leaning against the tree on the left. We have not taken a picture since May for other hives in this lot. We have an additional wild swarm, at least 5 years old, found in a house.

As you will see in the pictures of all hives belonging to Lady, her girls are tolerant of her creative endeavors.
